kindergarten is a bad word

31 05 2008

Okay, so here is this uber-outgoing, smart, sensitive, likes to be challenged four and a quarter (as he would say) year old who is so against kindergarten that it blows my mind. Thankfully, being a January birthday, he has another whole year to change his mind about it. I keep asking him what the deal is with kindergarten and he never has much of a response. But today, in a tired stupor after a morning of Spring Fling games, entertainment and popcorn and an afternoon of birthday bliss at one of the most comprehensive birthday parties I’ve ever attended (bouncy house, clown, piniata, parachute, playset, balloons, cupcakes, ice cream, and the list goes on) I finally got the scoop! From the backseat, I heard him say “I don’t want to go to school every single day. Who does that anyway?”

And this one… she looks so innocent and sweet, doesn’t she? You’d never guess she has the temper of a two year old! I shouldn’t complain because she is a great baby but as each day passes, I see the girly attitude and I’m sensing the trouble we may be in for…

go yankees!

25 05 2008

Pete took Brendan to his first Yankee game, and his last in this stadium. I knew what it meant to Pete but I had no idea how much it meant to this 4 year old t-ball playing baseball fan who knows every single player on the current Yankee roster, in addition to the Yankee legends. When he got home from the game, he immediately grabbed a bat and began to replicate A-Rod’s warm up down to the last detail. He told Pete before bed that he was going to eat only good food like apples and bananas from now on so that he could hit the ball over the fence (which he’s already done). This kid amazes me!

morning in millbrook

18 05 2008

It’s always a pleasure to meet and photograph new families but I’m thankful for the opportunity to have spent some time with this family in Millbrook. They were so laid back, natural, and went with the flow. Thank goodness they did because I was having some minor technical difficulties and hope to get together again soon to capture more shots of the little cuties! Thank you, Jess and family, for a fun morning! Here’s a peek for Mom…

six flags fun

17 05 2008

Pete and I were asked to speak at our adoption agency’s getaway weekend in Vermont on Friday. This is something we had been wanting to do and I surprisingly got a bit (okay, if you know me, it was more than a bit) emotional talking to these couples. It was overwhelming remembering having sat in their same spot over 6 years ago and knowing now how much you evolve throughout the process. We’re so glad we did it and hope to become more involved in such things in the future.

Speaking of 6, we spent Thursday (Daddy’s birthday) at the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge in Lake George… you know, the one with the indoor water park? It was excellent! Totally kid friendly and we will definitely be going back again soon. Here’s way too many photos but I’ll take some off after the Grandparents have a chance to see them. ;)

it’s all good

12 05 2008

Thanks to an early night for the kiddos and a challenge from a friend, I actually scrapped a page of my own last night. This was after a wonderful Mother’s Day full of family, friends, and fun (and lots of gardening!) Now if only I had this kind of time to myself more often…

teachers and moms

9 05 2008

Brendan’s class served the Mom’s breakfast this morning. It’s always nice seeing the other Moms we don’t get the chance to meet up with except at events like this. The turnout is always terrific and the kids make the cutest gifts and sing the best songs. It was also teacher appreciation day so we brought Miss Barbara and Miss Evelyn flowers and made each of them tags with a special note…

I have lots of teacher gift ideas so contact me to take a peek at some or discuss something new (I can’t wait to get my new website up and running!) I’m finding teachers are especially enjoying “survival kits” which are altered lunch boxes or cans that hold items for summer or for the school year. They are lots of fun! And personal gifts such as cards with a photo of your child(ren) or something with a special message is always a hit.

it’s not all about baseball

7 05 2008

Brendan’s team got their shirts after practice… the highlight of the night! When it was over, Brendan and his friend Anthony tore it up at the playground… and have the battle scars to prove it!

a yard sale weekend

5 05 2008

No actual photos of the sale, of course, but here’s a few from the kids perspective…

Brendan sold lemonade and did very well
(even on Saturday when everyone was wearing winter coats!)

Brendan with friends (from left) Logan, Lauren and Nina had their own Kentucky Derby:

We didn’t do well with our sale, but we enjoyed seeing the neighbors and our impromptu happy hour! And, as always, it was great having Gee-Gee and Poppy here for the weekend!!
